What is a Traditional
Part 150 Study?
PURPOSE:
The Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 150 Noise Study is a voluntary
noise exposure and land use compatibility study to:
- Identify existing and potential future noise exposure (5 years in
the future),
- Evaluate possible alternatives, and make recommendations to reduce
the number of people affected by noise.
The Study identifies and evaluates two components:
- Aircraft Noise
- Area Land Use
The Study produces two major products:
- Present and Future Noise Contour Exposure Maps
- A Noise Compatibility Program for Implementation
Federally approved measures in the Noise Compatibility Program are
eligible for federal funds.
Why
Conduct a Non-Traditional Part 150?
- Citizens are frustrated with issues that are not addressed
- Airports are concerned that the study is not dealing with the problem
- Regulatory process is not tailored to unique conditions at each airport
How
is the Spirit of St. Louis Airport (SUS) Part 150 Study Different?
- Extensive Community Outreach Program
- Non-Traditional Metrics to Supplement DNL
- DNL Metric Beyond Traditional 65 DNL
- Extensive Noise Monitoring Program
- Ground Noise As Well As In-Flight Noise
